Denton County Fresh Water Supply District Board of Directors is now made up entirely of residents. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Republic Property Group has donated land for the Fire Dept and Sheriffs office to be located off Copper Canyon Rd to eventually have direct access to Lantana via Golf Club Rd. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Plans to build the District offices are complete and it should be located on Lantana Trail. This means we should have the same place to vote each time. Hooya --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dead in the Water All of the dead fish have now been cleaned up. The fish were killed by the treated water that flowed in from the broken pipe by the entrance to Lantana on 407. The company responsible for the break will be billed for replacing the fish. There is some big fish, some over a foot long and lots of babies. Press relaease: May12, 2008 Last Wednesday, May 7th Schlumberger, Oil and Gas approached Lantana District officials for permission to access water from the Lantana south lake near 407. The request was made as an emergency request for water because the Bartonville water source initially designated was not capable of providing enough water pressure. Negotiations were in play between Lantana District officials and Schlumberger. The lake is located in FWSD #6 and is the property of the District. The initial offer from Schlumberger provided $10,000 compensation, which was to be paid to the Lantana Community Association for 3-5 day's of pumping as the Lantana Community Association currently maintains the aesthetics of the water and fountain at this pond. In addition, Schlumberger was going to replenish the water and make sure the lake was restored to its original condition. The District would benefit from the sale of the water. Subsequently, on Friday morning, May 9th, 1 Million gallons of water rushed into the south lake due to a water main break caused by the construction on 407. The water ran through the 407 construction site while they were treating the sub grade with lime. The lime entering into the pond caused a tremendous shift in the PH balance of the water resulting in the killing of the fish. Around 5:30 on Friday, May 9th dead fish started hitting the top of the pond at the same time that Schlumberger was installing their water pumps. The installation of the pumps has nothing to do with the loss of fish. It is merely a coincidence that these two events happened at the same time. Due to the fact that Schlumberger installed the pumps prematurely, and did not allow the Lantana Community Association officials the opportunity to notify residents in the surrounding area, The Lantana Community Association Board of Directors has asked Schlumberger to remove the water pumps. However, the FWSD #6 officials have determined that supplying water to Schlumberger is in the best interest of the District. District officials have negotiated with Schlumberger to move the pumps to the southwest quadrant of the lake. The FWSD #6 will retain the revenues from the water sale to Schlumberger as well as the $10,000 fee. Now on to the bigger issue which is the removal of the dead fish. The Lantana Community Association staff is diligently working with environmental cleanup officials and Pond Medics to insure proper clean up and disposal. Clean up will begin no later than Tuesday morning, May 13, 2008. Please be patient and we will keep you up-to-date on the situation as we have more information. Should you have any questions please contact the FWSD offices at 940- 728-5050. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Highland Village: Majestic Liquors Has broken ground for a new Liquor store in Highland Village next to the A-1 storeage facility on a vacant lot. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guyer High School ROTC Scholarships Patrick Britton - University of North Texas ROTC Scholarship $45,067 Dustin Henslee - New Mexico Military Institute ROTC/Athletic Scholarship $8,500 Caleb Weaver - Baylor University ROTC Scholarship $71,200 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Denton County: ALDI is coming to the area. ALDI is a German based grocery chain. Denton County Commissioner's Court approved a 35% tax abatement with a 3 to 1 vote. Aldi will be housing it's Southwest Regional offices and Distribution Center in Denton. The Aldi format is about the size of a Walgreen's with prices comparable to Walmart. Aldi director of Real Estate, Texas Division, Karla Waddleton stated "They are looking for around 50,000 population size towns. Denton and Lewisville will probably get the first of the stores. |
